Uniting Circle is proud to celebrate our Founder and CEO, Mujgan Tahery, who has been named Penrith’s 2026 Mayor’s Local Hero by Penrith City Council.

The award recognises Mujgan’s significant contribution to the Penrith community and her ongoing commitment to supporting individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Council highlighted her compassionate leadership and the welcoming, empowering environment she has helped create through Uniting Circle Multicultural Community Centre.

A Commitment to Community

Drawing on her own lived experience and deep connection to her Afghan heritage, Mujgan has dedicated her work to helping migrants, refugees and people experiencing hardship feel welcomed, supported and connected.

Through her leadership at Uniting Circle, she has helped create opportunities for people to access support, build confidence, connect with their community and participate in programs and services that promote inclusion and empowerment.

Council recognised Mujgan’s commitment to human rights, community empowerment, cultural diversity, inclusion and social connection, describing her as someone who continues to make a positive difference in the lives of people across the Penrith community.

Mujgan’s recognition also reflects the collective work of the Uniting Circle team, volunteers, partners and community members who contribute to creating a more inclusive and connected community.
