Uniting Circle is proud to celebrate the Healthy Afghan Seniors Program, which was recognised as the winner of the Excellence in Multicultural Health Award at the 2026 Together Awards.
The award recognises the program’s community-led approach to improving health and wellbeing for older members of the Afghan community and its work to create stronger connections between community members and health services.
Supporting Healthy and Connected Ageing
The Healthy Afghan Seniors Program delivered a 12-week, in-language program designed to make health information more accessible and relevant to Afghan seniors.
Through a welcoming and culturally supportive environment, participants had opportunities to learn, stay active, connect with others and build greater confidence in understanding and managing their health and wellbeing.
The program helped improve health literacy, confidence and awareness, while supporting safer and healthier ageing within the community.
Connecting Community and Health Services
A key strength of the program has been its focus on partnership, collaboration and genuine community involvement.
By working closely with health services and community members, the program helped create a space where Afghan seniors could access information, participate in activities and build stronger connections with available health and community support.
A Proud Achievement for Our Community
This award is a recognition of the commitment of the Healthy Afghan Seniors participants, Uniting Circle team, volunteers, health partners and everyone who contributed to making the program a welcoming and meaningful space for older community members.
