Uniting Circle is proud to celebrate the recognition of our Founder and CEO, Mujgan Tahery, at the 2025 NSW Humanitarian Awards, where she was named Highly Commended in the Refugee Community Worker category.

The award category recognises a former refugee working on refugee issues with their own or other refugee communities, either in a paid or unpaid capacity.

Recognising Community Leadership

Mujgan, a former Afghan refugee, brings more than 15 years of lived and professional experience supporting refugees and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Through Uniting Circle Multicultural Community Centre, she has led initiatives supporting community members through programs including mental health counselling, English and computer literacy, youth initiatives, emergency relief, casework support and community education.

Her work focuses on creating culturally safe spaces where people can access support, build confidence, learn new skills and strengthen their connections with the wider community.

Advocacy and Community Empowerment

Beyond her work at Uniting Circle, Mujgan has advocated for multicultural communities, refugees and settlement issues, using her lived experience to help amplify the voices of people from diverse backgrounds.

Her commitment to community connection, empowerment and inclusion has made a lasting contribution to the communities she supports across Western Sydney.

A Meaningful Recognition

Being recognised as a Highly Commended Refugee Community Worker at the 2025 NSW Humanitarian Awards is an important milestone in Mujgan’s ongoing community work.
